Loosely based on a real British spy
Velvet Assassin is an upcoming World War II stealth-action game by Replay Studios, starring British spy Violette Summers. The attractive protagonist is inspired by the story of real-life secret agent Violette Szabo, who was captured and executed at the age of 23 after enduring sexual assault and torture.
In Velvet Assassin, players take on the role of Summers while infiltrating enemy lines, tasked with taking down German forces from the shadows. A new trailer for the game was recently posted by Team Xbox, featuring somber visuals and glimpses of in-game footage.
The trailer doesn't show us a particularly groundbreaking game despite claims of its unique stealth-based combat system, so I wonder how well the game will sell -- and how well it would have sold without a female lead wrapped in tight clothing.
Velvet Assassin is due for release October 17 and will be available on PC and the Xbox 360.
